#1. Exide Industries

Now, Exide is collaborating with Mahindra Electric and Ola Electric to supply lithium-ion battery packs.

To expand their operations in India (when more demand will generate), Exide Energy has also sought and additional 40 acres land for 2nd phase of its cell project from Karnataka government in Devanahalli Industrial Area. This clears that, Exide  is unstopable and  their experience and established infrastructure translate into a reliable production chain.

#2. Amara Raja Batteries

Amara Raja is a major player in lead-acid batteries and has ventured into lithium-ion technology. They have a technology transfer agreement with ISRO and an R&D hub dedicated to EV battery development.

Common brand name that you see on Amara Raja batteries is Amaron and under the Amara Raja Giga Corridor project (Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh), the company aims to create lithium cells and battery packs with maximum capacities of up to 16GWh and 5GWh, respectively. It will also house a first-of-its-kind advanced energy research and innovation center called the Amara Raja E +Ve Energy Labs.

As per the update, Amara Raja Batteries has taken the first steps towards its next phase of growth in the New Energy business by supplying li-ion battery packs to three wheelers. If everything goes fine, then we might soon see the made in India battery pack in the cars or other 4 wheeler!

#3. Tata Green Batteries

Tata Green Batteries is backed by the Tata Group’s and its main  focus to manufacture lithium-ion battery packs for passenger and commercial vehicles like scooter, bikes, car, bus, trucks, and tractors. Their partnership with Ford and their upcoming joint venture with MG Motor India showcases their commitment to the EV space.

As the technology transfer to manufacture a  top-quality car battery pack is underway, we can expect more from the Tata green batteries in near future. As per the rumors, their joint venture with MG Motor India and plans to expand production capacity indicate their intent to become a major player in EV battery pack manufacturing in the future.

Apart from that, Tata Group announced an outline deal for developing a lithium-ion cell facility in the state of Gujarat, with an investment of approximately $1.58. The EV battery plant will assist the country in developing its own electric vehicle supply chain, rather than relying on imports.

#4. Luminous Power Technologies

A leader in power backup solutions, Luminous has entered the EV space with Luminous LiFePO4 batteries, known for their longer life and safety features. Their expertise in energy management systems adds another dimension to their offerings.

At present, Luminous has partnered with various electric two-wheeler manufacturers, including Okinawa Autotech and Hero Electric, to supply their batteries. But soon it will start the production of li-ion batteries for EV cars and once this will happen, we can see a major price drop in the battery packs of EV cars!

#5. Attero (Recycling)

The main job of this company is to recycle the old li-ion batteries which are dead or malfunctioned. As we know battery wastage is a challenge, so battery recycling is the best way to deal with it. The simple rule is that, although we cannot decompose it, we can somehow reuse it and save the environment from toxic gas or chemicals!

In India, Attero has teamed up with MG Motor India to reuse and recycle Li-ion batteries. This way, the company use the recycled batteries in electric cars and saves resources, battery cost, and protect the environment.

This is very good initiative by Attero and soon many more companies will join this race and recycle the old li-ion batteries cells. So in half of cost; new li-ion cells will be developed and this will help to reduce the upfront cost of new EV cars too. You can see its impact in next few years!

#6. Lohum (Recycling)

Lohum also recycles old lithium-ion batteries that have died or malfunctioned. As we all know, battery waste is a problem, and battery recycling is the greatest solution. The simple rule is that, while we cannot decompose it, we can reuse it to protect the environment from dangerous gases and chemicals!

In India, Lohum has partnered with MG Motor India to reuse and recycle Li-ion batteries. This allows the company to employ recycled batteries in electric vehicles, saving resources and money on batteries while also protecting the environment.

So, new li-ion cells will be developed at half the cost, lowering the initial cost of future EV vehicles. Its impact will be noticeable in the next years!

#7. Ola Electric (Upcoming)

In the list of who will be the upcoming EV car battery manufacturers in India, Old electric is on the top and will reduce the li-ion battery cells import figure in upcoming few years. As you know, India only manufactures 30% batteries of the current demand; but with Old electric this number will be doubled and we can save a lot of money on import duties and transport.

The construction of Ola Electric battery cell gigafactory has already begun and it is located in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri. As per official detials, it would be one of the most advanced and biggest cell manufacturing facilities with a production capacity of 10 gigawatt-hours per annum.

Once the plant will be ready, Ola Electric’s battery cells will be capable of powering electric vehicles and other battery solutions as well.
