Want faster charging for your MG Comet EV? The new variants Excite FC and Exclusive FC come equipped with a fast 7.4 kW AC charger, reducing charging time to around 3.5 hours (compared to 7 hours with the standard 3.3 kW AC charger). These variants start at ex-showroom ₹8.24 lakh (Excite FC) and go up to ₹9.14 lakh (Exclusive FC).
MG Comet EV is a city-based electric car that comes in three variants – Executive, Excite, and Exclusive. Earlier, the car came equipped with only a 3.3 kilowatt AC charger, but now the company has started offering a fast AC charger of 7.4 kW in the upper variants like Excite FC and Exclusive FC.
The option of a fast AC charger has been added, so those who would like to buy a car with a fast AC charger can now buy it. Apart from that, if those who do not want to buy it with a fast AC charger, they can still opt for the 3.3 kilowatt AC charger variant named Comet EV Excite and Exclusive. The charging time of Comet EV would be:
- The charging time of Comet EV with the standard 3.3 kW AC charger is between 7-8 hours.
- The charging time of Comet EV with the Fast 7.4 kW AC charger is between 3-3.5 hours.
Now, let’s have a look at if you opt for the fast charger variants like Excite FC or Exclusive FC, then what would be the price of MG Comet EV’s 7.4kW AC fast charger?
As we checked the official data regarding Comet EV prices, we found that the price of MG Comet EV’s 7.4kW AC fast charger is around Rs 35,000.
We got this value by analyzing the ex-showroom prices of Comet EV Excite and Comet EV Excite FC. Here we checked that the Excite ex-showroom costs Rs 7.98 lakh, the same model Excite FC with a 7.4 kW AC charger costs Rs 8.33 lakh. On the other hand, the top variant of Comet EV – Exclusive ex-showroom costs Rs 8.88 Lakh, and the same model Exclusive FC costs around Rs 9.23 Lakh.
So based on the ex-showroom price, we can conclude that the 7.4 kW AC fast charger price would be around Rs 35,000, and the charger price would be the same in both FC variants.
However, if you don’t opt for the fast charging unit and you prefer to buy the fast charger from third-party shops, then a 7.4 kilowatt AC fast charger will cost you around Rs 50,000 – 70,000. This price would be 50% higher than what MG is offering you, so it is advised that you opt for the fast AC charger unit during the purchase. This way, you will get a compatible & 100% original fast AC charger at much lower rates.
In addition to that, I would like to point out one thing: if you are opting for a 7.4 kilowatt AC fast charger, then you might have to apply for a domestic or non-domestic three-phase connection at the electricity board with a minimum sanctioned load of 7.9 kilowatt to 9.9 kilowatt to avoid any kind of penalties.
Apart from that, there is one more thing: these cars support only AC chargers. So you have to charge this at the AC point only. You cannot charge the Comet EV car at DC charging stations. This is a drawback of the Comet EV. But after all, it is a city-based car, and you have to be aware of it.
So finally, at the price point, the MG Comet 7.4 kW AC wall charger will cost you somewhere around Rs 35,000 from the MG store, but if you opt for it later, then the same will cost somewhere around Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000, and the installation charges might be extra.
The best and value for money deal would be, go and purchase the 7.4 kW AC fast charger variants (Comet EV Excite FC or Comet EV Exclusive FC) from the MG showroom. This will save your time, money, and effort, and you will love it.
