Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Electric Cars to be Available in India Later This Year

Tesla has made its intentions clear to enter the Indian market and for this the company has started the manufacturing of right-hand drive EV cars in Germany, which will be exported by the end of this year to India. This all happened when Modi government took a bold decision regrading the imported cars.

India’s new EV policy has opened the doors for Tesla, because according to it if a company agrees to invest at least INR 4,150 Cr (about $500 Mn) in India to set up manufacturing facilities, then import duty on imported cars will be reduced by 85%. Now Elon’s Tesla is all set to grab this super opportunity, and soon Indian customers can buy the Tesla EV cars that they have been waiting for for a long time.

Since the new policy has been approved, only cars priced above $35,000 will be sold in India. Tesla will launch Model 3 and Model Y in the Indian car market and will earn profits by selling these 2 models. Along with this, the company will establish EV plants in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu and for this the company has broad time frame of  5 years.

Once everything will be in pipeline, Tesla will launch new models of electric cars to give tough competition to well-established brands like Tata, Hyundai, Honda, MG, and Mahindra. But for now, by the end of 2030, Tesla will compete with premium brands which are Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo, and Jaguar.

The EV plant news is 100% confirmed. Tesla announced that we will invest $3 billion and send a team to India, and once the location is finalized, Tesla will work on selling the Model 3 and Model Y in the Indian car market. In addition to that, Tesla will build an EV infrastructure, which will encourage buyers to buy Tesla EV instead of other EV cars!
