Hummer EV Likely launch date
News about the launch of Hummer EV in India has been coming since 2021. Earlier it was speculated that it will be launched in 2022, later the date was extended to 2023, but now the date in 2024 is still not officially announced by GMC and we have not received any such information on https://www.gmc.com website.
As of now GMC has not given any official date for the launch of Hummer EV in India. However, according to many reports, this vehicle may hit the Indian market by the end of 2024 or 2025. Some other reports received from secret sources are also pointing towards its arrival in India soon.
GMC may think of launching Hummer EV in the coming few years as India has recently approved the new EV policy. According to that new EV policy, by investing Rs 5000 crore, companies can start selling cars in India and get 85% discount on custom duty. Therefore, if GMC takes advantage of this opportunity, the Hummer EV import duty will be reduced by 85% and in the future GMC can have a good hold on the EV car market by launching more affordable options.
This way, an ideal customer can buy the car for a lesser amount, and the company can sell products without any issue. And later, when production begins in India, the price will even drop further. The same variant (talking about Hummer EV 2X), which now costs around Rs 1.80 crore (ex-showroom + import duty (100%) + freight charge + RTO fee), will be available in future in India for only Rs 70-75 lakh (reasonable price).
So as the EV policy has been changed by Indian government, we can expect the launch of Hummer EV in late 2024 or 2025.
Battery and charging facilities
As mentioned earlier, the GMC Hummer EV will have two battery pack options. The first is a standard battery of 212 kWh with a range of about 380-421 km. The second option is a larger battery pack of 247 kWh that offers a range of around 450-500 km. Both options are quite impressive and adequate for long distance trips.
In terms of charging, the Hummer EV is capable of charging at high speeds. It supports DC fast charging so that the battery can be charged in less time. According to reports, it can charge a range of around 100 km in just 10 minutes with 300 kW or 350 kW DC charger. While, with normal AC home charging (220v 19.2 kWh AC charger), it takes about 22-24 hours to fully charge.
As the battery capacity of Hummer EV is either 212 kWh or 247 kWh, the charging time with 350 kW DC fast charger from 20-100% would be around 25 minutes to max 30 minutes.
